IndyCar driver Memo Gidley came to Thunderhill to drive for BAF Racing, and won pole and the GT class race.

IndyCar driver, Memo Gidley, was brought in by BAF Racing to do one thing: win the race. He did not disappoint. He took pole position and led every lap on the way to victory in the BAF Racing Chevrolet Corvette.

The Sportsman field was packed with many cars, all with a great chance to win, but Pete Bovenberg came on top in his ARG MBO Motorsport Honda Civic. Gary Sheehan won the Touring Car class in the GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Doug Makishima won the Super Touring class in the Summit Tech BMW M3.

Gary Sheehan took the Touring Car class win in the GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis.

Gidley was the fastest qualifier, but was followed very closely by Rob Harper in the AP Racing/BC Forged Chevrolet Corvette and the AFE BMW 335i of Larry Bani. Gidley managed to win while Harper had mechanical issues. Finishing second was Edgar Lau in the Intellectual Ventures BMW M3 and Bani finished third in the BMW.

The Sportsman class is where the battles are always fierce, and this race was no exception. David Vodden took pole position only to lose his time for being under weight and had to start the GoGoGear.com BMW M3 from last place. Bovenberg took the early lead, but Vodden charged through the field and a battle ensued between the two that resulted in body contact, and Vodden was disqualified. Bovenberg took the win and the points lead. Michael McColligan also had to work through the field and ended up with his best finish of the season, a second place for the Idemitsu/Raybestos Mazda RX-8. Freddie Macugay finished third in the Walker Telecommunications Honda Civic.

Touring Car class was won once again by Gary Sheehan’s GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis, with rookie Victor Ng grabbing second place in the ARG MBO Motorsports Honda S2000. Finishing third was Ali Arsham in the GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis.

In the Super Touring class, Doug Makishima continued his record setting performance with eight straight wins dating to last year. Makishima’s Summit Tech BMW M3 seemed unaffected by the tremendous heat and was turning super quick lap times. Finishing a strong second was the West Coast Ravenol Volkswagen Jetta of Reto Baumann.
