When you’re racing, you can see your competition — often in your rearview mirrors. You know that if you’re in front, you win. If you’re not, well, better luck next time.
In Time Trials, you don’t usually see your competition, and even if you do, you have no idea who’s running faster lap times unless you have in-car radio. That lack of information, that not knowing, brings a whole new dynamic to Time Trial competition, and it’s what these drivers thrive on. Time Trials at this year’s Western States Championships Presented by Toyo Tires was marked with heated battles up and down the roster. Anthony Szirka posted a 1:31.699, one of the fastest times of all cars that weekend, to take first in TTU.
TT1
Donn Vickrey took home first in TT1 in his Porsche 997 with his lap time of 1:31.999.
TT2
Robert Hall put his C5 Z06 to good use in winning TT2 with a 1:35.128.
TTB
NASA’s winningest driver in history, Dave Schotz drove his Pontiac Firebird to victory in TTB with a 1:38.742.
TTC
Dave Schotz also won TTC in a newly built C4 Corvette. Schotz picked up four Championships in 2015, bringing his total to 11.
TTD
NASA Florida’s Eric Powell picked up the win in TTD with a 1:40.864, making him a semifinalist for the Mazda Club Racer Shootout.
TTE
Justin Ross scored the win in TTE in his Mazda Miata with a 1:45.449. He too is a semifinalist for the Mazda Club Racer Shootout.
TTF
Team Edge Motorworks No. 2 scored a win with its Mini Cooper in TTF, with a 1:47.620.
