Dylan Stancil started from second on grid and went on to take the win under red-flag conditions at the Santa’s Toy Run at Road Atlanta in December. Curt Trawick finished second, with Bayani Dia in third.

Spec Miata had a good-size 14-car field for the last points race of the 2016 season, Santa’s Toy Run at Road Atlanta. We also welcomed three newcomers to NASA Southeast racing: Will Dodd, Bill Jacobus and Andreas Gabler.

During qualifying, Curt Trawick nailed down pole position with Dylan Stancil in P2, Jean-Francois Brunot in third and Keith Williamson fourth. Kevin Clifford lined up in fifth and Yan Dia was sixth. Brunot and Clifford were not in the season division points race so they elected to start from the back of the grid, which moved Jason Finch up to P3.

After the green flag dropped, Williamson and Dia got around Finch going up the hill out of Turn 1 for P3 and P4, and the order at the front remained that way for the laps one and two. The next two laps ran under a double-yellow for a 944 Spec off at the exit of Turn 12. After the restart, Stancil passed Trawick in Turn 1 and one lap later Dia got Williamson at Turn 10A. The race concluded three laps later under a red flag after a 944 Spec blew its engine going into Turn 1, leaving the finish order for the podium: Stancil P1, Trawick P2 and Dia P3.

This brought the 2016 NASA-SE season to a close for the Spec Miata, with Keith Williamson earning the regional points championship, with Yan Dia in second and Dylan Stancil in third.
