Bradley Miller leads Griffith Hawk on his way to a Spec Maita win at Santa’s Toy Run in December.

The last race of the 2018 Southeast season started with a wet and grim qualification session. Heavy rain resulted in significant hydroplaning and slow times for the 15 Spec Miatas that braved the weather at Road Atlanta in December. Bradley Miller claimed pole position with a 2:12.775, with Keith Williamson P2, Aiden Crouse P3, Caleb Bacon P4 and Grant West P5.

Yan Dia came into the weekend with a lock on the Southeast Region Spec Miata Championship, with Williamson in second. However, only three points separated Brad Miller and Aiden Crouse for third place in the regional standings. Saturday’s race would decide third place in the Southeast Region championship.

When the green flag dropped, Miller beat Williamson to Turn 1, but got loose, while Griffith Hawk was able to get a run on Williamson through the outside of Turn 1 to grab P2. Miller quickly built up a gap on Hawk and Williamson, and the race became one of working through traffic. About five laps into the race, Miller caught some traffic in the wrong place, allowing Hawk to close up to a couple of car lengths, but Hawk could never make a move. The race ended after a lengthy double yellow, with Bradley Miller taking the win, Griffith Hawk P2, and Williamson P3, Grant West P4 and Aiden Crouse P5.

Congratulations to Yan Dia for repeating as the Southeast Spec Miata Champion, with Keith Williamson in second and Brad Miller third.
