There is something about NASA Southeast Spec Miata racing at Carolina Motorsports Park. We seem to get a fair amount of good footage from those drivers and this week’s NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month is no exception.

The exit from Turn 9 at Carolina Motorsports Park leads to a long straight and the infamous “Kink,” a fast bend to the right that leads to Turn 11, a tight hairpin. You can pass in the Kink, but it’s a dicey move, and it can be difficult to make the pass stick, as demonstrated by Augustin Garcia Flores in the camera car and the car he’s battling, Javier Laurnaga.

“This was the second race of the weekend. I won the first one, but Javier set the fastest lap, beating me by .070 seconds. We were very evenly matched all weekend, so he started on pole,” Garcia Flores said. “I spent half of the race on his draft prepping a move and the video is from my second attempt to move to the lead.”

Unfortunately, Garcia Flores missed a shift coming out of Turn 1 and then encountered some lapped traffic, which allowed Laurnaga to get away. Win, place or show, this race looked like a lot of fun.
