If you cannot see what is out your back window, you have no way of knowing how close your competition is. That happened to NASA Northeast Super Touring 5 series leader George Menabde in this installment of the NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month.

Menabde was on his way to a win and was driving conservatively so he wouldn’t screw up a good thing. But Anatoly Stolbov was lurking behind his fogged back window, and by the time Menabde saw Stolbov coming up from behind, the sprint to the finish was on. Had the Start/Finish line been a little farther down track, Stolbov likely would have taken the win.

The race culminated in what many believe to be the closest finish in NASA Northeast history. Menabde and Stolbov charged toward the finish line side-by-side, with Menabde claiming the win by a microscopic 0.014 seconds.

Stolbov, who had been stalking Menabde through the “Boot,” nearly pulled off the upset. “I was able to get a run on him through 10 and 11,” Stolbov said. “I was so excited. I was so sure I had [him].”
