Well, this is certainly a first for the NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month.

At the first outing of the NASA Northeast season in April, an all HPDE event, Super Touring 5 series leader George Menabde took a second-generation Toyota Prius out for a lap around Lime Rock Park.

The cool thing about a Prius is that it has regenerative braking, so getting around the circuit is a lesson in preserving momentum. You will hear him say he never used the brakes. What’s more, they nearly got the “little Prius that could” up to 90 mph on the front straight. Of course when they pulled back into the paddock, everyone had a good laugh.

NASA Northeast kicks off its racing season this weekend at Watkins Glen International Raceway where Menabde will join the field of 11 Super Touring 5 cars. He just won’t be driving a Prius.
