There are places at Sonoma Raceway where passing is fairly straightforward and other places where passing requires more, well, chutzpah.

This installment of the NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month features a couple of passes on the faster sections of track that do require that high level of determination to pull off.

On the last lap of race two at the NASA NorCal May event at Sonoma Raceway, the driver in the camera car, Greg Lang, puts a move on No. 579, the Team 4-OFF Racing Club in the Carousel. Lang grabs the inside line and gets under Team 4-OFF and exits the Carousel with the lead.

But the race was not over because Team 4-OFF built a head of steam in the Esses, while Lang had to check up a bit for traffic, and Team 4-OFF was able to get ahead on the outside of Turn 9 and put a couple of car lengths on Lang at the exit of Turn 10. Lang has one more shot, but Team 4-OFF scampered to the checkered flag and the win. Spec3 has gone coast to coast!

  1. Two mistakes, a big one and a smaller one.
Late on the transition to 8A, completely missed the apex, just hanging onto it and couldn’t get on the power until late. Look how the E30s in front just go him. That allowed the other car to get next to him with a run.
Mistake number 2…….should have braked a bit earlier for 10 to break the overlap so he could have turned in earlier, made the apex, got on the power earlier and maybe got overlap on the inside of 11. Classic up and under……..square the turn up better.
