We all know the old adage that when you are going fast, truly quick, it doesn’t feel that way. Things feel slowed down, the car is hooked up but slipping — just enough, but not too much — and in this case, they look that way, too. It almost looks easy, but we all know better.
In this installment of the NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month, NASA Southeast Teen Mazda Challenge driver Dean Dybdahl calmly and smoothly shatters the old record — also Dybdahl’s time — by more than .6 seconds!
With a gap over the second-place car in Spec Miata, Dybahl takes advantage of the cooler air temperature at Santa’s Toy Run in December and puts in a rorty flyer at Road Atlanta. He might have gotten a bit of a tow down the back straight from a Spec E30, which also might have held him up a smidge under the bridge, but ultimately it didn’t matter. The new lap record stands at 1:42.753.

Definitely doesn’t look easy. Tires are screeching, he’s using every inch of track/exit curbs and correcting for oversteer even in fast turns like 1.
