David Allen scored his first Legends class Championship in is No. 43 Petty Racing-themed car. With a two-second-per-lap advantage over his nearest competitor, he cruised to victory at Sonoma Raceway.
“It was an easy race. I had nobody to run with,” he said. “We’re used to running with Super Unlimited cars, but the rest of the cars were pretty polite.”
Second place finisher Steve Wilson didn’t have it so easy. All weekend, he’d been struggling to get his car run right, and even during the race, it was still acting up.
“It would run fine for a while and then miss and then it comes back,” he said. “It was a struggle to stay in second place. I fought it all weekend long, changing electrical items, fuel pumps and filters and fuel lines. But we got out there and had a good time. We get to put it in the truck with all four fenders. Next year we hope to have a lot more Legends here.”
Thomas Woehrle finished third in a class whose races are governed by the size of their 5-gallon fuel tanks.
“For us it was a very long race because we can only run about 35 minutes,” he said. “It sure was fun.”
