Incidents earlier in the week led to DQs and a suspension in PTB, so by the time the green flag dropped on Sunday’s PTB race, the field had dwindled to three cars.
David Schotz started on pole in his Pontiac Firebird, with Douglas Turnquist in second in his Porsche 944 Turbo and Ricky Johnson in third in his Mini Cooper S.
Schotz took the lead and never let go. His win in PTB was one of three Championships he earned this year.
“It was a great battle with Doug in the 944 and Ricky in the Mini Cooper,” Schotz said. “The Firebird was great. Carbotech brakes, Hoosier tires, the car was consistent every single lap and it really made for a wonderful pace and a great race.”
Turnquist held on for second place, a position made easier because Johnson’s engine blew on the front straight on the penultimate lap.
“Luckily the weather broke, because I didn’t bring any wets with me,” Turnquist said. “This is my region and it usually doesn’t rain this time of year. I’m very familiar with the track, but it was still very challenging. The competition is great. We had a relatively small group in our class, but it was a great race group.”
