Super Touring 2 seems to be dominated by Corvettes with a few Porsches thrown in for good measure. On Saturday, William Brinkop put his Corvette on pole with a time of 1:35.014. He was followed by Eric Oviatt who posted a time of 1:35.562 in his Porsche 911. Chuck Mathews, Evan Gardner, and Oli Thordarson rounded out the top five. Brinkop won from pole by more than/ eight seconds over Thordarson in his Corvette. Oviatt was less than 15 seconds behind Brinkop and lost a position only to Thordarson. Thordarson charged up the field and easily had the best race, starting fifth and finishing second. Mathews struggled to get a grip with the track and his fastest lap time was over 1.5 seconds slower than his qualifying time. He ended up dropping two positions to finish fifth and over a minute behind Brinkop. Less than 50 seconds behind Brinkop was Gardner who finished fourth.
On Sunday, Mathews was three seconds faster and he took the pole by .850 seconds in his Corvette over Saturday’s pole sitter and winner Brinkop. Thordarson was in third but only by .500 seconds over Gardner. In the race Brinkop showed why he won Saturday and took the early lead. Brinkop and Mathews pulled away from the field. Mathews was held at bay by Brinkop by only .493 seconds. Brinkop took his second victory of the weekend and Mathews took his best finish of the weekend also. Thordarson had mechanical problems, but still finished in third, five laps behind the lead duo for an all-Corvette podium.
