For the NASA NorCal/SoCal shootout at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Time Trial drivers from all over the West Coast descended upon the Monterey County racetrack to take their best shot at the Corkscrew. Fifty-eight drivers entered the different TT classes, with two days of racing in perfect California weather for the drivers to attempt to set their best lap and break their own personal Gran Turismo Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca video game record.
On Saturday and Sunday in TTB it was Jon Burges in his BMW who set a fast lap in the second session of the day with a 1:45.464 to earn the win.
TTC was all Alexander Bermudez in his Porsche Boxster winning both days in the three-car field. Bermudez found the lines around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, winning on Sunday with his best time from the first session of the day scoring a 1:46.253.
In TTD, the largest field in the TT group with 11 cars, Paul Geddings in his black Mercedes-Benz dominated the weekend winning both days. Geddings had a best time from his third session on Sunday of a 1:43.652.
TTE had Emilio Cervantes running double duty (racing PTE and TTE in his 949 Racing Mazda Miata) winning both days in the six-car TTE field with his best time on Saturday during the second session of the day earning a 1:44.131.
TTF only had two cars in the field with Walter Carlos in his first-gen Mazda RX-7 won both days with a best time of 1:54.706 on Saturday.
TT1 had four cars in the field and was won both days by Dan Rose in his blue BMW, setting a best time on Sunday of 1:39.496 improving two seconds from his Saturday times.
William Brinkop ran his white No. 76 Chevrolet Corvette in TT2 and ST2 during the weekend. Brinkop set the fastest Time Trial time of all of the classes with a blistering 1:34.139 on Saturday. Brinkop won both days in the six-car TT2 field and also won the ST2 race.
TT3 had nine cars in the field with Sean Yepez earning the win on Saturday in a BMW and Donn Vickrey taking the top spot on Sunday with a 1:39.325 in his blue Ford Mustang.
TTU had a 10-car field which was won by Matt Robison on Saturday with a 1:34.882 and Team Nobama LLC winning on Sunday with a 1:36.101.
The Time Trial group ran clean during the weekend, which is in their best interest as any four-wheel-off excursion during a race session deletes that session — regardless of an earlier hot lap time — from their best times of the day.
