Thrilling action marked the NASA Great Lakes May Time Trial classes at Mid-Ohio, with some of the fastest laps and tightest competition seen all season. From the Mazda RX7 of TT1 class to the Ford Mustang GT’s of TT3, we had a full slate of skill and speed on display.
On Saturday, TT1 saw Logan Carswell in his No. 82X Mazda RX7 seize the top spot with an overall best time of 1:29.608 set in session four. TT3 saw strong performances from No. 411 Dan Westerwick and Richard Broome in, respectively, a Ford Mustang GT and Nissan 370Z. Westerwick marked the fastest lap time at 1:32.855 in Session 1 while Broome followed up with 1:48.446 in session three.
In TT4, Paul Radey clocked the fastest time of 1:45.341 in session two. TT5 had a tight field of 10 cars, with Darek Koman in his No. 131 Honda S2000 leading the class with a lap time of 1:38.033 set in session one. Michael Choueiri and Cagri Yilmaz followed closely, driving their BMW 330i and Mazda MX-5 with lap times of 1:38.579 and 1:39.164, respectively.
Team Davis NR Racing, driving the No. 56 Mazda Miata, dominated TT6 with a fastest lap time of 1:51.489 in session four.
The fastest Time Trial class, TTU, saw a sizzling performance by Jonathan Finstrom in his No. 2X Staudacher S12, setting a blistering time of 1:22.077 in session two. Joe Kellerman and Mike Wachmenko, in a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Radical SR3 respectively, trailed behind with impressive lap times of 1:28.651 and 1:31.596.
Sunday’s racing was equally riveting, with Dan Westerwick in TT3 again setting the fastest lap of 1:32.998 in session one. In TT4, Paul Radey ran unopposed with a best time of 1:43.811 in session three.
TT5 saw some shifts, with Darek Koman still maintaining his lead, clocking 1:37.747 in session three. Michael Choueiri closely followed with a time of 1:37.998 in the same session. In TT6, Steven Killian in his Mazda Miata stole the show with the fastest lap of 1:46.436 in Session 3.
TTU saw some notable performances with Joe Kellerman in the No. 71 Corvette maintaining his lead, setting a fastest time of 1:28.375 in Session 2. Andrew Lamping and Mike Wachmenko followed suit with lap times of 1:32.254 and 1:32.560 respectively.
The weekend was a resounding success, showcasing a breathtaking display of skill, speed, and competition across all Time Trial classes.
