The NASA SoCal June weekend of racing at Buttonwillow saw intense competition in Spec E30, with drivers battling for podium finishes.

On Saturday, Matthew Ibrahim clinched first place in a red BMW 325i sponsored by Garagistic, setting a fastest lap time of 2:07.949. Close behind was Team Mick Blue Racing in the familiar black and neon yellow BMW 325i finishing just 0.978 seconds behind the leader. Sean Aron rounded out the top three, trailing first place by 1.176 seconds in a blue BMW 325is.

Sunday’s race was interrupted by a fire set in the grass off track early in the race. The fire ended up causing a 20-minute delay, but race control was determined to give drivers more time to race than a green-white-checkers. The restart had lots of mixed-class traffic and the ensuing action was a bit chaotic.

When the checkers flew, Marcelo Calcagnotto had taken command in his white BMW 325i, improving his time to 2:04.096. Team Mick Blue Racing remained consistent, finishing second again with a marginal 0.629 seconds gap. Team JMP Autowerkz, sponsored by JMP AUTOWERKZ, managed a third-place finish with a time gap of 2.805 seconds.
