Jeff Wood scored the pole for Saturday in his FordRacingParts123.com Mustang, followed by Jason Lakomiak and Todd Rogers. At the start, sleet was coming and going as Todd Davis got a great run on the inside of the track in his Buick Grand National and stayed out of the meleé in front caused by a spinning Viper. Davis spun shortly after that, allowing Wood and Rogers to go by. Rogers got ahead of Wood and was reeling in Lakomiak and then passed him on the inside into Thunder Valley. Rogers led, followed by Lakomiak. On the final lap, Lakomiak took the inside before Thunder Valley to pass Rogers and get the win, with Rogers in second and Jeff Wood in third.
Mickey Remen won in AIX on Saturday and Sunday. In Spec Iron, Audrey Zavodsky took the win both days. She also won the Spec Iron regional championship for the Great Lakes and Midwest regions!
For Sunday’s race, the grid was set by the fastest race lap times from Saturday, which put Todd Rogers on pole with a 1:35.733. Jason Lakomiak was second, followed by Jeff Wood in third. Lakomiak took the lead at the start, but Rogers soon passed him in Thunder Valley while Lakomiak got caught behind traffic. Wood spun coming down the hill in Madness. His left rear rim failed, leaving his tire on the track and his car stuck in the grass. This brought out the double yellows and bunched up Rogers in first, Lakomiak in second and Elliott Fisher in third. The group took the green while they were bumper to bumper in the Carousel, so no one had an advantage on the restart. Rogers and Lakomiak continued to run laps in the 1:35s with Rogers breaking his own track record and Lakomiak setting a new track record with a 1:35.268! With the white flag out, Lakomiak got a good run out of Turn 1 and up to the Keyhole. Lakomiak went to the far inside under braking to get the inside line through the Keyhole. Lakomiak finished first, Rogers second, and Fisher third.
The AI Great Lakes Regional Series Championship was won by Jeff Wood driving the FordRacingParts123.com Mustang. Elliott Fisher in the Fisher Racing Mustang finished second. And, Jason Lakomiak in the GLPL Mustang finished third.
Steve Post won the AI Midwest regional series Championship. Todd Davis finished second in his Buick Grand National. Jeremy Moen finished third in his third-generation Camaro.
The AIX Midwest regional series Championship was won by Chris Griswold in his GV Machine Mustang. Jeffery Henderson came in second.
