Cool temps and low humidity made for close racing and fast lap times at Roebling Road Raceway in April.
On Saturday in Performance Touring E, Michael Carter in his Miata laid down a blistering 1:23.764-second lap time to hold off Tyler Harrell to take the win and set the PTE track record. In Performance Touring D, Ty Young and his BMW E30 held off the always quick Emmanual Baako. Aaron Whitinger finished on the podium with an impressive third place.
Sunday brought more of the same great racing. In Performance Touring E, Tyler Harrell picked up a bunch of time in his attempt to best Michael Carter, but came up just short at the end. The race ended with Carter in first, sweeping the weekend, and Harrell second. Performance Touring D started with a hard qualifying session, which unfortunately ended Emmanuel Baako’s day after he rolled his Toyota FRS over the fence.
We were relieved to hear that he was fine, but the car would not make the call for the race. That left Ty Young and Aaron Whitinger to battle it out for Sunday’s honors. Aaron Whitinger, after blowing his car up on the trailer, borrowed a car from fellow racer Walter Araya. Getting used to a new car wasn’t going to slow this kid down. He took the green and never looked back, holding off the clever attacks from veteran Ty Young. Congratulations to Aaron on his first NASA victory. Expect to see many more from this hot shoe in the future.
