Recaro Classifies Some Profi SPG XL Racing Seats No Longer Suitable

Recaro Automotive has issued a release declaring the Profi SPG XL racing seats built from 2017 to 2022 no longer suitable for use, because “failure under certain operating conditions cannot be ruled out,” according to Recaro. The company recommends immediately refraining from using or reselling the product. The release said Recaro is currently working on a new product that will be launched in October 2022.

Seats manufactured before Jan. 5, 2017 are not affected. The affected shells can be identified in the following ways:

  • Manufacturer’s badge on the underside of the shell (only readable when the seat is removed: The model can be precisely identified on the basis of part 070.86.UU11-01-AA, the name RECARO Profi SPG XL, the individual nine-digit production number and the date of manufacture, e.g.to 01/05/2017 to identify exactly.
  • FIA sticker on the left-hand side of the shell at shoulder level: Under the model name “Profi SPG XL” and the FIA homologation number CS.086.04. the validity of the homologation five years is indicated by the note “Not valid after.” The year used provides information about the year of construction, e.g. Not valid after 2022 means year of construction 2017.

To exchange or take back for a refund of the purchase price of the affected Profi SPG XL seats, Recaro has set up a dedicated webpage where users can  enter the required data and begin the free exchange or return process.
