All it took to win the July NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month contest was a near-total brake failure.

NASA Southeast Spec3 racer Andreas Schmidt had a bit of a fright going into Turn 3 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in July. The ABS system on Schmidt’s car locked the rear brakes going into Turn 3 at more than 100 mph during warmup. Schmidt reacted quickly and kept the car pointed forward without barreling into the tire wall on the outside of the corner, and the NASA Nation voted overwhelmingly for Schmidt’s save.

Schmidt earned 45.8 percent of the vote in the July Move of the Month contest, compared with 28.9 percent for second place, 14.5 percent for third and 10.8 percent for fourth. Congratulations, Andreas.
