NASA Mid-Atlantic runs a unique race format on Sunday mornings called Beast of the East, which puts every series in a given run group — Lightning, Thunder, etc. — in one race. Cars are gridded by lap times from Saturday’s race, regardless of class, which is why Spec3, Honda Challenge and Spec E30 are all mixed together in this video. You get one point for passing and you lose one point for being passed. At the end of the year, drivers with the most points win the BOTE, a regional championship unto itself, independent of your race series.
In this week’s video, NASA Mid-Atlantic Spec3 driver Jake Thiewes gives us an inside look at what a BOTE race was like at the June Joust at Summit Point Motorsports Park. Pretty cool.
