It’s no secret that NASA Spec Miata has its share of great drivers and competition as close as it comes. We know this, and we know those of you who don’t race in Spec Miata get kind of tired of hearing about it, but this week’s installment of the NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month makes a pretty good case for itself.
It begins with NASA Southeast Spec Miata racer Javier Laurnaga asking for a bump draft from Teen Mazda Challenge driver Julian Pollard. Laurnaga doesn’t get the bump and Pollard makes the pass on the exit of the Kink. They both go wide around a Spec E30, with Laurnaga putting two wheels off on the outside.
Laurnaga gets back around Pollard at the entry to Turn 14 and fends him off as the two take the white flag. Laurnaga and Pollard continue to battle as fellow TMC competitor Dean Dybdahl begins to sneak up from behind and take over second place as the trio streaked through the Kink for the last time. Laurnaga knows what Dybdahl is capable of, and hustles his car through the Carousel, back to 14 and down the front straight to take the checkered flag and the win. Heck of a show, gentlemen.
