NASA Northeast Spec3 racer Taylor Johnson went door to door with Spec3 National Champion Jon McAvoy for a full lap and a half around Summit Point in September. Normally, we run footage from inside the car, but in this case, we wanted to show the battle from the car behind McAvoy and Johnson.

“At some points, the distance between our cars could have been measured in microns,” Johnson said with a hint of exaggeration. “I missed a difficult 3-2 downshift in Turn 5 and had to tuck in behind Jon, and then we duked it out for the closing laps through traffic where Jon took the victory.”

The top three crossed the line .7 seconds apart. That’s the kind of racing we all hope for when we buckle in.
