The old trope goes that you cannot win a race in the first corner, but you sure can lose one. Or you can just lose a little ground.
In this exciting installment of the NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month, NASA Southeast Teen Mazda Challenge driver Dean Dybdahl gets on the brakes just a bit too hard on lap one into Turn 1 at Carolina Motorsports Park in February — look for tire smoke in the rearview camera — and he loses three spots in the process. Ostensibly unfazed, Dybdahl got the front end back under him and set about making up the ground he lost in Turn 1.
It takes him a few laps to catch polesitter Travis Wiley, but he takes advantage of out-of-class traffic to make the pass and make it stick. Nice work.
