You are going to love this installment of the NASA Racing Gear Store Move of the Month. NASA SoCal Spec E30 racer Marcelo Calcagnotto gets a decent start at Willow Springs International Raceway, but then a couple of racers get by him in the early going of the race. He battles a bit with now Spec E30 National Champion Matthew Ibrahim, whose shifter broke about 10 minutes into the race. His shifter also broke at the Championships, so there’s that.
When Ibrahim drops out, Calcagnotto sets is sights on the lead pack, and he eventually catches them on the front straight after getting a great run out of Willow Springs’ infamous Turn 9. The E30s have to deal with traffic and one another, but the racing is epic, the kind of action you always hope for when you suit up.
Calcagnotto works his way up to third place and begins eyeing Tom Paule in second place. He sneaks underneath in Turn 8, but Paule gets by him again in Turn 1. The two keep drafting and dicing through the white-flag lap. Look closely and you can see Paule give Calcagnotto a shaka sign out the window in Turn 2. Love it!
Calcagnotto holds his spot and finishes in second. Nice racing, gentlemen.
